10 Best Nightclubs in Taipei

Most Popular Taipei Nightclubs

The best nightclubs in Taipei prove that, while the city may not be well-known as a party destination, it has a lot to offer, with a great deal of variety available. The downtown district of Xinyi is the main place to party, with dozens of clubs to choose from, often within a short distance of each other. Many of these clubs have at least a smart-casual dress code and attract the chic, elegant high society among Taipei’s young clubbers.

Taipei’s clubbing scene is dynamic and constantly evolving; when a new place opens up, it may well have shut or been replaced before you’ve even had a chance to check it out. Names change too, with some of the city’s most popular clubs being subjected to rebranding and refurbishments. So while it might feel like a challenge keeping up, at least you know the nightlife scene here isn’t exactly standing still. Find our 10 favourites below!

Room 18 Xinyi
Room 18

One of the swankiest clubs in town, attracting the trendy youth of Taipei with a wide range of electro and hip hop tunes which keep the dancefloor packed. One side of the club attracts a young crowd with its big bar and loud music while the other has a cool and sedate cocktail lounge. Entry is NT$700 for both guys and girls (except on Wednesday, when girls get in free), which includes two drinks. Prices for further drinks are generally around NT$200, with a good choice of whisky and brandy available. Despite the fact that most people would consider this to be pretty pricy, it is widely agreed to be absolutely worth it for a lively, friendly atmosphere. Read More...

Club Myst Xinyi
Club Myst

A very close contender for the title of the top club in Taipei, Club Myst has a luxurious décor, a spacious dance floor and a great view of Taipei 101 from the balcony. Being at the top of the ATT4FUN building, it is the closest you will find to a rooftop club in Taipei. In spite of a NT$700 cover charge and drinks prices on the high side, the place is amazingly popular, often being packed and having a queue to get in. The DJs spin commercial house from a big stage, with podium dancers leading the way every 15 minutes. The audience can be a mixed bag, but is generally young and trendy and keen to dance.

Lava Xinyi

In the basement of the Neo19 building, Lava calls itself the ‘ultimate party place and night club’. Sure enough, it is another close contender for the top spot on our list and has a funky, colourful décor, with lightshows coming from the bar, stage, walls and floor. DJs spin a range of progressive house and R&B, attracting the young and trendy crowd. Its popularity means that the queue to get in can be pretty long, particularly since many people refuse to leave until closing time once they’re inside. It is particularly popular on Sunday, when your entry fee (NT$700 for guys, NT$400 for girls) includes an all-night open bar.

OTS Chess Club Xinyi
OTS Chess Club

Much more intimate and exclusive than other venues in Taipei, Chess Club is a relatively small place, but makes up for its size with its sophisticated modern style and creative use of space. As you’d expect from its name, it has a classy monochrome décor. This is one of the best places in Taipei to hear trap and hip-hop. Some consider this more of an after-party venue than the sort of place you start your night, but attracts a friendly crowd to its laidback atmosphere (albeit one that has a dress-code and expects you to behave yourself). The crowd at OTS Chess Club consists of models, celebrities and business folk.

Elektro Xinyi

Opening in January 2015, Elektro made a big splash when it hit the Taipei club scene. As the successor to much-loved Spark club, it had some big shoes to fill and managed it well, appealing to the same EDM-loving crowd. Even with a big room with simple décor, the place is often packed with fun-loving your clubbers, with big-name DJs gracing the stage most weeks. Elektro is two floors below Club Myst and shares a similar view through the windows which make up one wall. It also shares the high cover charge and drinks prices, but the fact that the dance floor is frequently packed proves its popularity.

Babe 18 Xinyi
Babe 18

One of the most popular places to go on a Sunday night - mostly for the fact that the cover price pays for an all-night full open bar – Babe 18 the little sister of Room 18. Its name describes it perfectly, with the vast majority of the patrons being around that age and the venue being designed to appeal to the younger audience. A relatively small, one-room club, the dancefloor is a reasonable size and the DJ keeps it filled with commercial house, with demonstration dancers leading the way. Queues to get in can be long and the budget booze (entry fee varies around the NT$500 mark, depending on the night) means the atmosphere can be spoiled if the kids don’t pace themselves properly.

M Taipei Xinyi
M Taipei

Taipei’s top Latin music nightspot is particularly popular with expats and international students. The music style includes salsa, jazz and Caribbean alongside electro, pop and hip hop. The entry fee, which is usually low for a Xinyi club (around NT$300) covers all you can drink and there are lots of special party nights, with bonus discounts and drinks and special prizes if you bring the right kind of ID or dress right. A fun and lively place, it often has a long queue outside, in spite of its very late opening time, and attracts a very wide age range.

Box Nightclub Daan
Box Nightclub

Formerly named Club Wax, Box has a new and bright look on the outside, with a gritty, simple décor inside. Being close to Shida University and playing hip hop and R&B, it has a young crowd of students and expats, including appropriately themed nights (Student Party Fridays and Foreigner Wednesdays, with discounts if you bring appropriate ID). As with many clubs in Taipei, the cover charge (NT$600 for men and NT$350 for women) pays for all you can drink. Lacking the posh décor of the Xinyi clubs, it is more approachable and friendly, particularly given that the venue is smaller than many, giving it an intimate feel.

OMNI Xinyi

Rising from the ashes of the extremely popular Luxy Nightclub, OMNI has a funky - almost Tron-like – look with exotic show dancers, a cool young crowd and hot contemporary music. Being owned by the prominent LOOP Productions, it is sure to attract big-name DJs and be the home of some huge parties. However, as it only opened relatively recently (May 2015), it has yet to build up the reputation of the club it is replacing, though it is likely to become a fundamental feature of the Taipei nightlife soon.

  • Opening Hours: Wed, Fri and Sat 22:30 – 04:30
  • Location: 5F, No. 201, Section 4, Zhongxiao E. Road, Xinyi

Hive Xinyi

Run by the team behind Club Myst (and located in the same building), Hive Club has some really innovative features, including a small bar in the large elevator which takes you up to the club, ‘all you can drink tables’ (available from NT$2,000 for eight people) and the largest number of podium and show dancers of any club in Taipei. The honeycomb theme suggested by the name is carried onto the spacious dancefloor and parts of the décor. The hip hop music brings a mostly local crowd, many invited via Club Myst. With the average age range being around the mid-20s and over, it is a good place for the more experienced party animal.
